The annual Employers’ Summit is a premier event that brings together over 100 business, government and civic leaders in a program designed to engage participants in a dialogue about the effective integration of skilled immigrants into the labour force, and to celebrate employer excellence in Ottawa.
The evidence is compelling – unconscious or “hidden” biases have a tremendous impact on the hundreds of decisions we make each and every day. Research indicates that these biases are a normal part of brain functioning, providing us with efficient mental shortcuts with which to process large amounts of information. However, unconscious biases in the workplace can also undermine organizations’ and leaders’ best intentions and efforts to foster diverse and inclusive workplaces.
Effective leaders are those who are aware of these biases and understand how to overcome them.
This year’s Summit examines the impact of unconscious bias on talent management, from recruitment and hiring, to succession planning, performance evaluation, and developing inclusive leadership skills.
The Summit’s expert speakers and panelists will examine how unconscious bias can affect our perceptions, decisions, and interactions, and outline the steps that can be taken to minimize its negative impact on organizational performance and success.
